OHS Canada Honours is designed to recognize the best in workplace health and safety across Canada.

The Biggest Night in Safety includes a cocktail reception, dinner and awards ceremony, bringing leaders from across the country together to network and celebrate the best practices in the country.

Keynote

Dr. Joel Moody
Chief Compliance Officer, Ontario Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills

Dr. Joel Moody was appointed as Ontario’s Chief Prevention Officer effective September 15, 2021. Prior to this appointment, he was Chief Public Safety Officer and Senior Director Analytics of the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) and has close to twenty years’ experience working in various labour organizations throughout the province of Ontario.

Dr. Moody leads the Prevention Division and is responsible for the oversight of Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Prevention System. He provides advice to the Minister on the prevention of workplace injuries and occupational diseases and on any proposed changes to the funding and delivery of services for the prevention of workplace injuries and occupational diseases. He works with the WSIB and the Health and Safety Associations (HSAs) and related stakeholders to advance the transformation of the occupational health and safety system to an evidence-based and outcome focused model to eliminate workplace injuries, fatalities, and illnesses in Ontario.

Throughout his career, Dr. Moody has championed innovative approaches to harm reduction and regulatory oversight. He is well known throughout the health and safety sector for his ability to build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, as well as his passion for worker health and safety. Equity, diversity, and inclusion are also central to his philosophy and leadership.

Dr. Moody holds an Executive Education Certification in Strategic Management of Regulator and Enforcement Agencies Program from Harvard University, a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) and an Advanced Certificate in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from George Washington University, a Master of Public Health (M.P.H) International Health/Epidemiology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Civil/Environmental Engineering from Duke University.

For close to a century the Palais Royale has been home to great musicians such as Count Basie and Duke Ellington. In 2005, Palais Royale underwent a revival and now takes its place as one of Toronto’s premier event venues.

We are excited to host OHS Canada Honours at this prestigious space!

Parking

Complimentary guest parking is available directly on Lakeshore Boulevard in the median across from the building. Coming from the east or the west on Lakeshore Boulevard, stay in the left hand lane. You will then see the green parking sign for guest parking for Palais Royale. There is a pedestrian crosswalk to get across Lakeshore to the venue from the parking lot and access to the painted blue and green foot bridge is not necessary. See the map above for reference.

An accessible entrance is located on the west side of the building.
